An alarm only works if it reaches everyone. Sounders carry the warning through the building, and beacons carry it to people who cannot hear it — in a plant room, in a noisy factory, or because they are deaf.

Revere checks sound levels room by room after installation rather than assuming coverage from the drawing, and adds beacons wherever the noise floor or the occupancy calls for it.
